PUPILS GIVEN BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR AT OAKWOOD THEME PARK
Pupils from Stepaside Community Primary School in Kilgetty enjoyed a special behind the scenes tour of Oakwood Theme Park.
The tour was part of special joint initiative between the Pembrokeshire attraction and the Darwin Centre to provide youngsters with a hands-on introduction to the world of science and engineering.
As well as enjoying themselves on a selection of the park’s rides, the pupils also met with some of Oakwood’s team of engineers who explained how each of the rides work.
They were also allowed special access to go behind the scenes to see parts of the park closed off to the public.
Manager of the Darwin Centre, Marten Lewis, said: “Our partnership with Oakwood Theme Park opens up a great opportunity for young people across Pembrokeshire to experience the science and engineering most people take for granted.
“The behind the scenes access with engineers allows the children to get up close to the mechanics, electrics and computer systems that bring the park to life.
“It’s partnerships like this that have allowed the Dragon LNG Darwin Experience to engage with over 10,000 young people in the decade the project has been running,” he added.
The Darwin Centre for Biology and Medicine is a charity that was established by Professor Anthony Campbell in Cardiff in 1993. It moved to Pembrokeshire in 1999.
The Centre’s aims are to excite young people about science, particularly at the cutting edge, and provide a vehicle for professional scientists and naturalists to engage with the public.
